grandpa packard! oh, what could i say to you about grandpa packard that would help you understand who he is?
perhaps i could not. but i will tell you this story that my dad told me once when i was a very little girl and that i have always remembered:
grandpa packard built his own house. if he did not have the tools, i suppose he had to borrow them. one time he did borrow them from a man at church. this man told my dad that when grandpa returned the tools he didn't have to count them, or look them over because he knew that whatever grandpa had borrowed would be there.
that is something comforting to a small child; knowing that the grown-ups in their life are good grown-ups. i was lucky to have many.
oh man, i just read the title to this one and smiled. have you been to that house?? i love how at the top of the stairs to the right there is a door. open it, and it leads to the roof. out on the roof, a lawn chair. for grant packard. i admire this man
